Greetings to you! I have some good news to share!
In February, 2011, Tyndale House Publishers released While the World Watched: A Birmingham Bombing Survivor Comes Of Age During the Civil Rights Movement (Carolyn McKinstry with Denise George). The book tells Carolyn's incredible story as an eyewitness and survivor of the 1963 deadly bombing at the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church, Birmingham, Alabama. Christian Focus Publisher has just release my two new books: Fighting Fear With Faith, (a practical guide to overcoming harmful fears), and I Am My Sister's Keeper, (a book about how to reach out to hurting others with God's Word and practical help).
I am excited to be currently working on two brand new books:
I am throughly enjoying working with two amazing women: Judge Helen Shores Lee and her sister, Barbara Shores, as we put together, in hard cover book form, the story of her amazing father, Authur Davis Shores, an early African-American attorney practicing in Alabama during the early years of the civil rights movement. Shores worked with Thurgood Marshall, and served as an attorney for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1963, Birmingham, Alabama. Because of his work, Shores became a direct target of the powerful Ku Klux Klan. Twice they bombed his home, injuring his wife, Theodora. The book will also include their family's story – growing up in Alabama during the Jim Crow Laws years and civil rights struggles, and living on Birmingham's Dynamite Hill. The working title is: Growing Up on Dynamite Hill: Our Family's Life and Struggle Before, During, and Beyond Alabama's Civil Rights Movement.
The second new book in progress is titled: A Woman's Right to Rest: Discovering the Fourteen Types of Biblical Rest That Can Enhance, Empower, and Transform Woman's Faith, Health, Work, Relationships, and Life. Both these books are in their early stages, but expect to see them in bookstores soon!
More Great News: Our Boot Camp for Christian Writers seminars (taught by myself and my good friend/author, Carolyn Tomlin) are growing quickly! After attending these all day seminars, people are getting published in top magazines and receiving book contracts from traditional publishing houses! Hundreds of people, from 15 different states, have already participated in the all-day, writing-to-publish workshops. Beeson Divinity School, Samford University, has invited Boot Camp for Christian Writers to become a permanent part of Beeson's Lay Academy of Theology program. We are excited about the wonderful future possibilities this partnership will provide.
