God's Gentle Whisper:
Developing a Responsive Heart to God

Denise George

Publisher: Christian Focus

Description
“Why don’t I hear God’s voice?” is a thought, maybe even a cry that every Christian has uttered to themselves. We yearn to hear God’s voice speak to us but also have a curious impatience for his answers. We live in a society that has only three standards of results – ‘I want it now’, ‘I might just be able to wait until tomorrow’ and ‘I’ll get it somewhere else!’ It’s not surprising that we can’t wait for, or often hear, God’s voice in our lives. Denise, a successful journalist, author and public speaker, challenges us to seek an intimate dynamic relationship with God through three aspects of waiting on him in prayer.
We know him by listening with our heart.
We love him by hearing his voice.
We serve him by responding to his gentle whisper.

Prayer is much more than speaking words to God, popular author explains.

Birmingham, AL – In a frenzied world, Christians often struggle with hearing God amidst the clutter. Responding to this rampant need in today’s Christian community, Christian Focus Publications announces the May 1 release of God’s Gentle Whisper: Developing a Responsive Heart to God, rev. ed., by Denise George.
“How can we so tune our hearts to the heart of God, that even when we are encircled by society’s chaos, our hearts are prepared to feel His presence and hear His voice?” asks author Denise George. The answer, she explains, is something the prophet Elijah discovered almost 3,000 years ago: “But God didn’t speak through the wind…or through the earthquake…or through the fire. God came to a terrified, whining, scared Elijah in a ‘gentle whisper’” (based on I Kings 19:11-13). This whisper, she continues, gave him the strength to move ahead in the work God had given him to do.
Further, George reminds readers that Jesus prayed in this way. She cites examples in Scripture where Jesus often spent time in quiet, restful moments with God. And then He would come down from the mountaintops, “roll up His sleeves,” and continue His work. The object of hearing God’s voice, George explains, is coming to know Him and to serve Him.
God’s Gentle Whisper is not afraid to address difficult issues like God’s sometimes-unexplained silence, a world in pain, and ordinary busy-ness. George outlines six types of prayer in which God whispers: prayers of the waiting heart, the struggling heart, the expectant heart, the prepared heart, the servant’s heart, and the Shepherd’s heart.
